Trending News Today: Sanofi to Lower Monthly Cost of Insulin Products

Sanofi SA announced it will lower the cost of its insulin products to $99 per month for uninsured patients with diabetes, Reuters reported. According to the article, Sanofi said US patients with diabetes can purchase up to 10 boxes of insulin pens or vials with a valid prescription for $99 per month beginning in June. Similarly, last month Eli Lilly announced plans to sell a half price, authorized generic version of its insulin injection product at a list price of $137.35 per vial, the article reported.
On Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) introduced a new version of his “Medicare for All” health care plan, The Associated Press reported. According to the article, the plan would eliminate insurance premiums and deductibles for Americans through a government-run system that would largely replace private insurance. The updated version also includes coverage for long-term care, such as nursing homes, and home- and community-based care, the article reported.  
YourChoice Therapeutics, a startup founded by researchers from the University of California, Berkley, is developing the first hormone-free birth control for both men and women, The Hill reported. According to the article, the product would inhibit male sperm from reaching and fertilizing an egg, in what’s known as a “molecular condom concept.” The researchers said they have been developing the concept over a decade of research and plan to release the product in 2025, the article reported.
